Neanderthals

Neanderthals were not simply exterminated by Homo sapiens. We competed, mixed, and eventually absorbed part of them into ourselves. Could artificial intelligence produce a similar transition—one in which humans survive, but no longer remain the dominant autonomous intelligence?
