Artificial intelligence is everywhere—or at least the label is. A soap opera panics over a “smart” cooking pot while the truly powerful algorithms quietly decide what we watch, read, click, and believe. The real danger may not be that machines are becoming intelligent, but that we are becoming increasingly unable to recognize the difference between automation, hype, and intelligence itself.
