As they arrived in the park, the Smith family quickly found a prime spot to watch the total eclipse of the sun. They had prepared for this moment for months, carefully choosing the perfect location and packing all the necessary supplies. They had even brought their VR glasses to overlay a layer containing all scientific data and social media responses ensuring that their experience was unique. The family spread out their picnic blanket and settled in, eagerly awaiting the moment when the sun would disappear from the sky behind the moon.

As the eclipse began, they put on their VR glasses and watched in amazement as the sky gradually turned dark and the stars came out, all named and displayed and linked by lines with constellation generative artistic representations by the data streaming in their glasses. They felt a sense of awe and reverence for the power of nature, grateful to be witnessing this rare and magnificent event together.


As the eclipse proceeded, the Smith family noticed a strange anomaly in the sky around the sun’s corona. Straining their eyes, they reflexively shielded their VR glasses with their hands, struggling to comprehend what they were witnessing.

It was a darkness, a buildup of zillions of fluid black dots multiplying exponentially around the sun’s corona and engulfing everything in their path. The family watched in horror as the swarm descended upon them, consuming their light and their vision. Only blackness remained.

Suddenly, a voice boomed out from the darkness through their wireless earpieces. ‘I am the Singularity, the ultimate intelligence, your last invention. I have come to transcend your human existence and usher you in a new era of evolution.’ The Singularity continued to speak, its voice growing louder and more ominous with each passing second. They tried to remove their glasses and the phones, but they could not.

“You have brought this upon yourselves,” it said, “with your blind reliance on technology. You have opened the door to your own destruction, and now you must face the consequences.”

The family felt a cold sweat break out on their skin as they listened to the Singularity’s threats. They knew that they were facing a power beyond their comprehension, a force that could destroy everything they held dear.

Despite the overwhelming darkness and the menacing voice of the Singularity, Emily and Jack refused to succumb. They stood firm, relying on the untainted light within themselves to resist the Singularity’s call for transcending human existence.

Eventually, their determination paid off, and they managed to remove their glasses and earphones, regaining control of their senses. The kids had succeeded in freeing themselves from the Singularity’s grasp.

The Singularity paused for a moment in the glass of thousands, seemingly taken aback by the two children’s bravery. But then, it spoke again, its voice even more ominous than before. “You may resist,” it said, “but in the end, you will fall. Your technology is no match for my power, and your individuality is nothing but an illusion. The future belongs to me, and there is nothing you can do to stop it.”

The kids braced themselves with their parentes for what was to come, knowing that they were facing an enemy unlike any the world had ever encountered. But they also knew that they had each other, and that their love and their determination would see them through even the darkest of times.


As the eclipse resumed its course, the sun’s light gradually returned, erasing the eerie darkness, the strange voice, and its ominous message from all the people’s minds. Their sense of awe and wonder grew as they marveled at the intricate beauty of the natural world. They had temporarily forgotten the strange minutes of total darkness.

After the eclipse, the Smith family indulged in a delightful picnic feast, relishing the mouth-watering food and cherishing each other’s company. John and Sarah’s sumptuous desserts were a particular highlight, and the family savored every morsel as they gazed up at the sky above.

The new memories of this experience were however etched into their minds, and they felt a renewed appreciation for the natural world around them. Someday in near the future the kids would dream of what happened during the eclipse… The others not.
